Now they have lots of pigs

This project was started about eight months ago. All this Village had was an empty field, a few pigs and a couple goats. Now with their new Farm they feed the village of 14 families with a variety of nutritious vegetables. They sell the extra to the market and to customers who come directly to the field. With the extra they are able to pay for their children's School, buy extra livestock and even buy a motorcycle so that they could deliver their crops to Market. This has all happened in only eight months.
Here's just a portion of the farm. It is well kept and organized. 12 of the 14 families in the village work in the farm. This was a very successful project. It's likelihood of lasting long-term is very high because it is so economically viable. It is the only farm in the area that can grow vegetables in the dry season because of its well. In the hour we were there five customers came by to purchase the vegetables. Sometimes some of the area grocery stores will come and buy an entire row of crops.

We are so happy with this project and its outcome that we made a commitment to fund a second Farm in the general area. Quite a lot of work goes in to making these Farms successful. The NGO that supervises it brings many of the villagers into their office to stay for about a week for training.
The ocean, a boat and newly caught fish. This is the livelihood of a lot of families in the area.
The manager of the NGO we were with stopped to possibly purchase this fish. The owner wanted $30. We did not buy it. I was happy about that. It would have been inside the car with us for about a two-hour Drive.
He did buy some wine. He brought his own containers. The wine cost $2 for 4 liters. It is made from palm trees. It did not smell very good.
This is the vehicle we travelled in. It was not air-conditioned.
Most of the road was along the coast. It was pretty twisty. As usual I had to take some Dramamine to keep from getting sick. Beautiful country though.
Back in the capital city Dili, where we live, they've just completed the decorative addition to the main Bridge over the Comoro river. The tower and the cables are all just for looks. They don't even attached to the bridge structure. At night the cables are lit. It is an interesting way to spend a million dollars in this country
