A Sunday swim

The baptismal font on our churches patio is bigger than most. We only filled it up once before and at that time we let the water run at half volume overnight. This time we let it run most of the day and when we checked on it again it was all the way to the top of the font, much higher than it should be for the baptism of two children. I hoped that the level would go down overnight because the drain plug was nothing more than a plastic bag covered by a brick.

Unfortunately, the next day Sunday, the day of the baptism the water was still just as high. Anticipating this possibility I brought my bathing suit and goggles to the baptism. I went to the bottom of the font, removed the brick and the plastic bag and then let it drain for about a half an hour. I then went back under the water and replaced the the bag and the brick and everything was fine.

Daud and Diana were the remaining two unbaptized members of the de Silva family who were baptized about 2 months ago. The father Januario was a little intimidated to do the baptism so they asked me to do it. The picture on the laptop computer is of the two missionaries from Indonesia who taught the children via Skype.
Afterwards we had a light lunch
On the same day was Tara's farewell talk before leaving on her mission to the Philippines. She is the First Missionary called from Timor-leste.
Friday night after our scheduled after baptism lessons to the de Silva family they prepared a nice meal for Cheryl and I. Beef and chicken. It was good. Meat is a rare item in their diet because of the expanse.
The next day on Saturday we met with the family again for the mission president to do the baptismal interviews. Once again the family fed us all. This time we had rice with chicken and fish. Their generosity is humbling.
One of our two running routes is a road alongside the river. A month or two ago the higher River level washed out the retaining wall and part of the road. There's been no repairs yet and the road continues to deteriorate. There are no safety barriers or warnings so it's driver beware.
