Now there are 10

The DeSilva family were baptized today. They are the first convert baptisms in Timor leste. This is a picture of the family, myself, our mission president, president McKay and the two missionaries who taught the family via Skype.  President McKay felt they were the most spiritually mature and converted family that he has seen so far in his mission.
The baptismal font is outdoors in our patio area. I had the privilege of baptizing all five of them. Great experience.

The day went perfect. The new family understood the significance of the ordinance and felt the spirit ratifying its validity. After the baptismal service we had Sacrament meeting. I got to confirm two of the members of the family. After the Sacrament service the husband, Januaro, received the Aaronic priesthood and now he will be able to administer the sacrament next week.

This was the best day of our mission. We could feel the significance of the events here. This is the family that will have a significant part in bringing the gospel to this land
This is a picture of all but two members of our our little group. We've more than doubled in size
This is our baptismal font. It took about five hours to fill.
There was no drain plug so we had to use a plastic bag covered by a piece of tile and held down by a rock. It worked great.
The day before I had to clean the font. Had to use a bucket. Luckily it cleaned up pretty well.
Funerals are a big thing here. All the extended family and friends gather. Most people don't have an area big enough for the gathering so they just rent a tent and put it out in the middle of the street. They block both ends of the street with a stick with a flag on it.
No cigarette taxes here.
