Scouts

On our way to English class we saw this banner and Gathering of youth. The man in the picture is Robert baden-powell the founder of the Boy Scouts. The Insignia is a combination of the Boy Scout insignia and symbols from the Catholic Church.
They were having some sort of gathering and they were staying overnight in tents. All of the participants had either a scout shirt or at least a scout neckerchief. This field is in town it's surrounded by businesses and houses.
You can see in this picture a young man filling up water containers. I think that is the only running water for the whole area. I have no idea what they're doing for bathrooms. In the picture you can see that there are two girls camping also. Apparently the scouts here have welcomed girls much earlier than the ones in the United States.

This he is a remarkable sight in that they seem to have a lot of The Scouting equipment which for most people would be very expensive. The sign says they're going to be here for about a week. On Sunday we noticed that they were all attending the local Catholic Church.

Here's a picture of the beach close by our apartment at low tide. You can see all of the rocks that become exposed. No one goes swimming in the beach here because of the rocks. That coupled with the possibility of saltwater alligators make swimming Risky Business. There is a better Beach about five miles away. However one of our church members reported seen two alligators in the water there. The people are in the water looking for small fish and crustaceans.
This Is Warlito. He is a member of our little group. I have mentioned him before in our blog. He has seven children all of which live in the Philippines with his wife who is now living there. She recently stopped working at her job in Dubai to be with her children. He has been here for a couple years and will be here for a couple years longer. Before moving here he lived in Malaysia and then also in Dubai.

That is the life of many people that live in these second and third world countries. Employment requires that you live away from your family. Warlito says he can make much more here than he can in the Philippines. He works as an electrician for a company that does Remodeling and refurbishing. For the last couple months he's been working 7 days a week. He leaves at about 7:30 in the morning and gets back at about 6. He's a good-spirited man. Always happy and always positive. He goes to visit his family in the Philippines once a year. His employer pays for the trip.
