Birthday
Tuesday May 29th was Cheryl's birthday. Unfortunately we weren't able to do much special on that day. We taught our English class. Afterwards we went out to dinner and then this is her birthday cake. She was able to speak to almost all of our children on her birthday. Cheryl's present from me was an authentic timor-leste purse
We met with dom Bosco which is a Catholic trade school on the island. They are extremely successful in placing students in jobs. The shortest man is Father Adrian who is in charge of the school. The tallest is Father Joseph who is the administrator. The man on the right is mr. Lee. He is a consulted from Korea who helps with the school. In our meeting we decided that our charity would help provide modern tools for their General construction class.
This is a picture from my morning run. The river flows from the mountains and this is where it reaches the ocean. Normally the flow from this river is about ten times higher but this is now the dry season.
This is Eric the Air Force Captain. This is the second trip here. He will be here for 3 weeks as one of the leaders to coordinate a u.s. Air Force humanitarian mission that consist of food, construction help and medical personnel. We had him over for dinner. He is a member of the church.
The timor-leste Independence Day was a couple weeks ago. Our landlord placed a Timorese flag in front of our building
We had an amazingly violent rainstorm the other night. It must have rained 5 in in about an hour. Everything got flooded. Fortunately or apartment is well built and high enough that there were no problems. This is a picture of the small field area across from our front door. In this picture it looks like a lake.

We were able to order these running shoes from America. We had them sent to Utah and they were picked up by an Air Force captain from Alaska who was visiting his parents there. He then brought them here on his recent trip as part of an Air Force humanitarian project in our country. We are so excited to have our usual running shoes. What's available here are not very sturdy or durable.

We wish sister Trapani a belated Happy Birthday. I think that must be the most ingenious way to get a pair of running shoes that I have heard of and you did not have to pay any taxes! We have been in some very strong rainstorms but never one that dropped 5 inches in an hour...Thanks for sharing some of your mission experiences.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Mama!! Glad you got to eat chocolate cake!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Cheryl!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday Cheryl. I know mission presidents who have resorted to different ways to get things to them that they needed but you are the first to get the help of the Air Force. Definitely glad you have good running shoes. Love you guys.
