Now they're mobile
We visited a humanitarian partner called CNR. They provide wheelchairs, walkers and Canes to the disabled. They also make prosthesis and customize and repair wheelchairs. They are a remarkable organization. Were it not for them these people would not have the resources or the availability to receive help. All of the services here are free of charge to the poor
This is a little girl who had a birth defect. They created a custom wheelchair for her.
This is a dorm where mothers stay with their daughters while they're receiving physical therapy and being fitted for a wheelchair or an artificial limb. The mattresses that we provided will replace the old ones in the dorm
Because artificial limbs are each unique they have to be custom-made here. They have a machine shop that creates the limbs.
The challenge that CNR has is funding. Salaries are funded by the government. But most of the supplies and materials have to be donated. They are the single resource for mobility aids in the entire Island so they go through a lot of equipment. They are just received a large supply of wheelchairs with a donation from an Australian Rotary Club.
The challenge we are working on with them is obtaining resin to produce the artificial legs and arms. Currently their production is shut down until they can receive a new Supply.
This is so amazing really. I cannot say enough how grateful I am for the blessings and comforts we take for granted. Nor can I express how inspiring it is for you two to leave these comforts and serve your Indonesian siblings from Heaven.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the kind words Gerry. Living here does make the many things that bother us in the United States seem pretty Petty. I have to admit that I received your email while we are on our Escape from timor-leste to get our Visa renewed. We have two nights in Bali in a hotel that's unbelievable. I just had one of the most exotic and delicious breakfasts I've ever had in my life. It is going to be so hard when we have to return to timor-leste tomorrow. Today we're going to the beach.
