3 days of non sacrifice
Fortunately Jets can land at our Airport. There are three different airlines that service the airport. None of which have I ever heard of before.
We fly to the nearest major airport which is Bali. The flight is beautiful. There are many small islands that we go over and the clouds are always spectacular.
Our room in Bali was amazing. Perhaps the nicest I've ever stayed in. A nice glass enclosed shower. The patio had a side sitting area that was private. The wall coverings and Furniture were all very rich. It was in the offseason so the price was only $75 a night
Included in the hotel price was a complimentary breakfast. It was by far the most impressive free breakfast I've ever had or probably the best breakfast I've ever had. It starts off with fruit and yogurt. Then they bring breads. Then they bring your choice of a gormet cereal or gormet salad. The main dish that I chose was eggs benedict with salmon over hash browns. Of course you get juice. I chose mango juice today
We sat in a covered patio area that was surrounded by tropical vegetation and a koi pond.
We got up and meandered through the city. One of our main tasks was to go shopping for all of the items that are not available in Timor-leste. We had clothing, kitchen utensils, bedding, food, and athletic equipment we wanted to buy. Fortunately the part of Bali we were in is a big tourist spot and there's all sorts of malls.
In the afternoon we went to the Beach. The beaches were wonderful. Not too crowded and very clean. The water was so warm. The weather was in the mid-eighties and a little humid.
The sand was incredible. Very small grains of sand.
Sunset on the beach was beautiful.
All together we were there three days and two nights. On the second night we had dinner at a Beachside restaurant. There was a little rain storm while we were there but we were Undercover. This is the view from our table.
We had a pizza, a gourmet salad and a soft drink. Total cost was $12.
The whole experience was so nice that it made us dread a little bit going back to our third world mission. The people in Bali were very friendly and chatty. At least the part of the city that we stayed in was very clean with many large resorts. Shopping was great. Even though we were in a tourist area prices were still cheaper than back in America. It was hard getting used to the currency though. The currency is in Indonesian Rupiah. 100000 rupiahs equals $7.
Looks like a nice little break from your everyday life. Glad you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteLeaving the country every 3 months may be a pain but since you do get to go to Bali the pain is not so bad. While you are in Bali do you buy some of the foods you can not get in Timor Leste and carry them home in your luggage? Perhaps in an extra bag?
ReplyDeleteBali was like having Christmas. There was a mall across the street from our hotel. We bought shoes, food, belts, ties and kitchen utensils. We each brought an extra empty suitcase to carry the items back home.
